Some stories in life are eternal like the ‘Arabian Nights’ which is believed to have been told for a thousand and one nights! Likewise is my search for a good foundation. I guess it is a never ending saga cause I am never satisfied! So this time round, I went ahead and gave the L’Oréal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation a try.
Here is my detailed review:
The product: A Google search on L’Oréal Infallible foundation most often brings up their Pro-Matte version, but the one I am reviewing today is not the same. I am referring to the Infallible ’24H Stay Fresh Foundation’, which is available in India unlike its Pro-Matte cousin. The Stay Fresh foundation claims to be a long lasting (24 hour) liquid foundation that provides a flawless complexion without any transfers or masking effect and fights makeup meltdown.
In my opinion, it is a foundation with thick consistency and best suited for people with combination to dry skin as it has a dewy finish. The dewy finish I suppose is a result of hydrating Hyaluron that the foundation contains. The foundation also has SPF 18 which I am not a fan of cause I prefer to use my own sun protection if I am stepping out during the day. But to the foundation’s credit, it does not produce a white cast in photographs even with the SPF.
Coverage: The foundation provides a medium to full coverage. It is buildable, which means it can be applied with a light hand for a medium coverage or can be built up further for full. Since the consistency is thick, I recommend either using a beauty blender or a foundation stippling brush for a medium coverage.
Currently, I do have some left over acne marks on my face, the foundation does cover them up decently i.e the redness diminishes to a large extent. However, the marks don’t magically disappear with the foundation (and I don’t expect them to either cause that’s the job of a concealer!).
Color: I am an NC40 and hence the shade ‘250-Sable eclat radiant sand’ is perfect for my skin tone; it is slightly on the yellow-olive side which blends in well with my natural color. However, the foundation does oxidase on me, which disturbs me a little and therefore I feel the need to set it with a peach colored compact to counter the grey hue.
Lasting power: It claims to be a 24 hour foundation but honestly on my oily skin, even with a primer, it lasts only for 3-4 hours. I usually set it with a face powder as mentioned above but that doesn’t keep it from melting away after a couple of hours in the heat. It also settles in my laughter lines, therefore using a primer underneath is a must with this foundation.
Packaging: It is packaged in a glass bottle and thankfully has a pump. The pump is not of great quality, in fact, it feels a little flimsy for my taste. I did accidentally drop the bottle a couple of times but it did not break (thank heavens!!) so it may hold up while traveling.
Price: 30 ml of foundation is priced at $90.
Availability: Online on Amazon or in Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop L’Oréal counters.
My verdict: L’Oréal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh is not my holy grail foundation yet, mainly because it oxidizes on me. But currently, since I am too oily in this Delhi heat, I will give this foundation a shot once again when it starts to cool down a little. The good part about this foundation (unlike most foundations I own) is that it is a perfect color match for my skin tone and I feel the color range is made keeping the Indian skin tone in mind, which I appreciate. The only other ‘psychological’ downside is that it is not oil-free (or it is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging) which scares me a little cause I have acne prone skin that gets irritated easily.
Having said all that, this foundation is not bad at all, it may work for you like it works for so many others who have tried it and love it (including my sister who highly recommends it!!)
My rating: 7/10
