It is golden pink with a beautiful iridescence. It smells of raspberries with a hint of chamomile. It is luminous with a stunning pearl finish. It is magic in a bottle. It is the Girl Meets Pearl from Benefit Cosmetics! Here is a review of one of my favorite highlighter from Benefit:
What is it: Girl Meets Pearl is a golden pink liquid luminizer that has a pearly sheen. In other words it is a beautiful highlighter that has an eye catching iridescence in pinkish gold color. It is sheer and has a light reflecting property that provides the most beautiful glow without being overtly shimmery or shiny. The ingredients sound good too, raspberry and chamomile, known for their soothing properties, sweet almond seed extract known to help improve skin smoothness.
Application: For a dewy look, it can be used all over the face mixed with liquid foundation or can be used to strobe the high points of the face for an ethereal looking glow. I prefer to use it with my fingers when highlighting but it applies beautifully with a synthetic brush as well. People often complain that it tends to shift the foundation while blending, but the trick is to use light feather strokes instead of rubbing.
Effect: I love this highlighter! It is one of my most used highlighters. I have reviewed Mary Lou Manizer from the Balm before, but Girl Meets Pearl is a little different. This as I said is a liquid highlighter. The gold shimmer is very (very) finely milled, feels almost like a beautiful mixture of crushed pearls. The resultant glow is soft and beautiful. The golden particles are not too visible and neither is the highlighter bam in the face like its cousin High Beam. Girl Meets Pearl is a perfect balance between Mary Lou and High Beam, not too gold, not too pink. The formula is sheer but can be built if required. It has a cream like consistency that is not oily or sticky whatsoever. It lasts for a good 4-5 hours on me, which is commendable. The scent is very mild, does not bother me at all.
Packaging: It is über cute! Encased in a pink metallic bottle with a twist up mechanism, it is so easy to use. The bottle is sleek, the cap fits in perfectly; I never have to worry about it leaking or spilling while travelling. It came with a transparent top cap, which I lost over the years, but that’s okay, I can still travel with it as it is. I also have mini versions of this baby, (actually a couple of them) from the Primping With The Star kits that I have been collecting; reviewed here.
Price and availability: It retails for $30 on the Benefit website.
My verdict: Girl Meets Pearl feels like a million dollar highlighter to me. It looks beautiful on a lot of skin tones (I am NC35 at the moment) but I have seen my pale faced friends using it and loving it too. It does not accentuate pores or fine lines. My mother who is in her early sixties, loves this highlighter, she uses a slight amount over her foundation (every single day), all over her face for the dewiness and I agree it does add a youthful glow to her face. So no matter how old you are, you are bound to like this product. It does not make you look like a disco ball if that is what you are afraid of. I say, go ahead and spin some magic with this baby!!
