Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation Review

Fortunate are those who are blessed with perfect skin but thankfully for the rest of us full coverage foundations were created. With so many festivals round the corner and Navratri being in full swing now, I had to bring out my trusted Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, out of my closet onto my vanity! Even though I am a strong believer that one does not always need a full coverage foundation, investing in good quality concealers is always the key, but there are times when you need your security blanket aka a foundation that provides comfort as well as a decent coverage. So here is a review of one my most long wearing makeup product, the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.

Estée Lauder Women Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup - Wheat

Product: The Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is a stay-in-place liquid foundation that has SPF 10 in it. It is oil free, fragrance free and non-acnegenic (which means it is less likely to clog pores or cause acne). In my opinion, this foundation is suitable for combination to oily skin types. People with extremely oily (and acne prone) skin like myself can wear this foundation with ease.

Coverage: It is a medium to full coverage foundation. But it is buildable; so you can opt for a medium coverage or build it up for full if needed. The best part however is that this foundation minimizes the appearance of my pores like no other. The result is an airbrushed skin that looks almost flawless. It does not settle into fine lines which makes it suitable for all age groups. The foundation is pretty long lasting too, it stays put for a good 6-8 hours on me.

The feel: A love the feel of this foundation. It dries quickly to a velvety texture that looks and feels natural. Even though the foundation is heavy duty and thick in consistency, it does not feel heavy at all. A little goes a long way, hence you have to be careful about not using too much. This is best applied with a damp BeautyBlender, but a synthetic flat top kabuki brush like F80 from Sigma works well too (reviewed here).  The only thing to note here is that this foundation does not replace a concealer. I still use my MAC concealers where required.

Color: I have the shade 2W2 Rattan which is a yellow toned color. It is the closest to my skin tone only a hair lighter. I chose this color for I was afraid of oxidation, but this foundation does not oxidize on me at all. The foundation does deliver a grey tone if applied under the eyes without a color corrector (I have very dark under eye circles) but I tend to go very light under the eyes and always prefer to use my Bobbi Brown corrector beforehand.

Packaging: The only downside to the foundation is its packaging. It is packaged in a heavy glass bottle and therefore impossible to travel with (even though the claim is that the glass is extremely thick and will survive journeys) but let’s face it, it is an expensive foundation and taking chances with it is rather stressful. The other downside is that it does not come with a pump, hence it is a little inconvenient to use.

Price and availability: It is priced at $40 for 30ml, available at all Estee Lauder free standing stores.

My verdict: If you are looking for an extremely good coverage foundation with a formula that is long lasting, then Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation is the product for you. Aside from the packaging, I love every bit of this foundation. The price is definitely on the higher side, but it is comparable to most high end brands these days. If the above mentioned points draw you in then I must assure you that you will not regret the purchase.
